PLEASE NOTE: This is a STUDIO, not a LAB!!!

The class shown in the upper left (Prof. Craig's Mechatronics Class) was the very first to use this room at 2 pm on 9 September, 1997. The next three photos were taken the week of 13-17 October, 1997. The final photo shows Don Millard's Fall 1998 section of E&I taking Quiz 1. The first studio classroom in Engineering was the Circuits and Electronics Studio, which is across the hall from the Instrumentation Studio. .

Instrumentation Studio Facilities

This classroom has 9 learning stations, each of which can accommodate two groups of two students for a total of 36. Each of the stations is configured around a Dell Optiplex Gn+ PC running Windows 2000 with an GPIB interface connecting it to the instruments listed at the right. Using Agilent Intuilink Software, students can document and analyze their scope waveforms, move scope waveform data into their arb, graphically create their own arb waveforms, and better manage their counter or DMM results. Each station also has room for student laptops. All station computers (including laptops) are networked together (and to the outside world) and served by an HP Vectra XU 6/200 running Windows NT.

The instructor's station is equipped with two Video Visualizers and the NT server computer noted above. This is equipped with a sound system so that students can do their work to music (classical and jazz) and a VCR. The visualizers, the computer, and the VCR are connected to four Sharpe Video Projectors. A sophisticated lighting system with Lutron controls permits a wide variety of lighting options.
