COMPUTER ACTIVITIES

EXPERIMENTAL ACTIVITIES

1. Be sure you understand the operation of the apparatus before beginning any observations.

2. Explore the range of the variables to be measured so that the data cover the complete spectrum of possible values. It is wise to do this initially, before beginning systematic data acquisition, in order to get an overview of the experiment.

3. Keep your work area clean, arrange and assemble all apparatus carefully and neatly, and when so directed by the instructions, dismantle the apparatus upon completion of the experiment, leaving it as you found it. You are not excused from the laboratory until you have cleaned up after yourself!

4. Handle all apparatus with care.

5. Report all breakage immediately to the instructor.

6. Do not move apparatus from one table to another. Do not take any apparatus or reference books from the laboratory without permission of the instructor.

7. When two or more students work together, each is expected to share the work and each should collect a portion of the data. The combined data may be used for the report; however, each student is expected to prepare an independent report. Calculations must be made by the students independently, with results compared for accuracy.

8. Never sacrifice accuracy for speed. Be careful, methodical, and pay close attention to all details.

9. Smoking or other tobacco use is not permitted in the laboratory at any time.

10. For reasons of safety, shoes should be worn at all times in the laboratory. Coats, hats, and unnecessary materials should be left outside the laboratory.
