Hello All!

HAPPENINGS:
Lei, Uday and I are all back to work here in WI.
I have a "PRIVATE LINE"! (Don't knock my excitement) office#: 608-263-2967
HOLE DRILLING
The hole drilling is tentatively set for March 15, 1999. The machine
down time is expected to be between 5 and 6 weeks. I highly recommend
that we have ALL components of the primary and secondary transition
chambers FULLY assembled and leak checked by MARCH 7. If EVERYTHING
is ready to install, Mark will most likely drill our hole first. If
we are not COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY READY, he may not drill our hole first.
MACHINING OF PRIMARY BEAM LINE TRANSITION CHAMBER
The machine shop here in Madison is currently working on the primary
beam line chamber. The materials that we ordered (mini-conflats,
nipples, and rotatable conflat) and supplied (hemisphere) have all
arrived. I stopped in early last week to let them know I was here,
and to deliver the drawings for the snout that mates with the MST
chamber. Before delivering the drawings, Mark Thomas made a few minor
dimensioning changes to the drawings. Lee Potratz, the machine shop
supervisor, has arranged to have the chamber leak checked by someone
here in the physics department (I didn't ask for a name). I expect
that the chamber will be done sometime early to mid February. The one
request from the shop was for an assembly drawing of the chamber.
John is working on this.
RPI MACHINE SHOP
The RPI machine shop has machined the panels for the vacuum interlock
controllers. The drawings for the accelerator control panel were
sent to John last Wednesday by Uday, and are in the machine shop.
Also in the queue is the shutter arm for the primary transition
chamber.
HIGH VOLTAGE SHELF AND PRIMARY BEAM LINE SUPPORT STRUCTURE
I spoke with Tom last Thursday regarding the status of both designs.
He has been tied up with some other issues and is not as far along as
he would have hoped to be. He assured me that these other issues
would soon be resolved, and he would devote time to our shelf and
support structure. I have asked that he design the HV platform first.
Should the HV platform be designed within the next couple of weeks,
and the material order, we should be able to start installing the high
voltage platform on the maintenance days remaining before the hole
drilling.
HIGH VOLTAGE CAGE DESIGN
The high voltage cage is being designed by Uday. He is working out
the structural design, and seeking advice from Bill Zimmerman
(technician?) and Tom Lovell. He will soon be ordering the materials
needed to build the cage. He will also look into what portions of the
cage can be built prior to its installation (this will hopefully allow
us to get it into place shortly after the HV shelf is built).
TRAJECTORY CALCULATIONS FOR THE LEVITATED DIPOLE EXPERIMANT (LDX)
Lei has taken a look at the LDX web page and begun modeling the Bfield
to be used by the trajectory code. He is now trying to work out some
minor file uncompression problems he is having on the RPI computing
system and verifying accuracy of the calculated field..

Literature re: Rowe 20-6.6 kV connectors seems to be contradictory.
The question remains - Did we order the correct connectors. We're
looking into it.
